In the digital age, online hate is a serious threat to young people. This is especially true for young people living in insecure and conflict-afflicted contexts.
The DAAD-funded project “Together against hate on the Internet: Prevention and Intervention Strategies for Young People” aims to combat internet hate. In cooperation with colleagues from Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Ukraine, conflict management and prevention instruments are being developed and tested. Based on previous research, the project focuses on implementing effective prevention and intervention strategies. These are specifically geared towards the needs and challenges of young people.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with cooperation partners. These include Dr. Prof. Svitlana Khadzhyradieva from the State University of Intelligent Technologies and Telecommunications in Ukraine, who is coordinating the project for other Ukrainian partners such as the Izmail State Humanitarian University and the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University K.D. Ushinsky. Our team also includes Jyldyz Doolbekova, Almagul Osmonova, Aigerim Zholchubekova from the Taalim-Forum Public Foundation in Kyrgyzstan and Svetlana Haraz from the Free International University in Moldova.
In August 2025, a summer school will be organized at the University of Hamburg as part of the project. This event offers the opportunity to discuss current topics related to combating hate on the internet. The one-week program includes seminars, lectures and workshops. The aim is to deepen scientific knowledge and develop practical solutions for the challenges young people face in the digital world. Together, we want to raise awareness of the dangers of cyber hate and provide young people with effective tools to counter these challenges.
